New Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors have arrived hot on the heels of this weekend’s leaked images. Polygon says multiple sources have confirmed Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 is indeed coming sometime in 2017. We’ll see it for the first time at this weekend’s PlayStation Experience. Also, Polygon says that the game will focus on characters from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, meaning no X-Men or Fantastic Four.
Goodbye, Wolverine?
If these Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors are true, it’s a sad (but not unexpected) day for fans of the X-Men. Marvel’s mutants have been core to Capcom’s super fighting games from before the Marvel Vs. Capcom series was created. As pictured above, X-Men and Wolverine, in particular, are central to Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.
Sadly, as Marvel Comics fans will tell you, a deemphasis of the X-Men has been happening for years. Marvel has been focusing hard on the characters it owns the film rights to, like The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Meanwhile, characters they don’t own the film rights to, like X-Men and The Fantastic Four are swept to the side, appearing in fewer comics, none of the cartoons, toys, or (yes) video games.
Playing a Marvel Vs. Capcom game without Wolverine sounds like a real bummer, so let’s hope this rumor isn’t 100% true. Be sure to check out below more of what we know about the game so far, and stay tuned for more updates.
The original Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors from Nov. 26 are below.
Even during the quiet of weekend like Thanksgiving’s, big rumors can appear. For both comic book fans and video game fans, this is a big one (if true). Via some new images popping up online, Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors are coming fast and furious. Could MVC4 be a reality?
Gonna Take Ya For A Ride!
The Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors began a couple of days ago and crystallized this morning. As reported by ComicBook.com and others, a series of images have been spreading around online. Like the one above and below, they seem to come from a reveal trailer. It reflects on the 20 years that have passed since the first Marvel Vs. Capcom.
Like the collage of art is shown, the camera starts to pull back. While looking back at images from the previous Marvel Vs. Capcom games, a shape begins to form. It looks to be a number.
To complete this tease of Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors, the camera pulls back all the way. There we see a rather stylized number four, as well as logos. Not just Marvel and Capcom’s, but also the PlayStation 4.
Now, this could just be a very well done fake, but here’s why I think it’s more likely true. Some previous Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors also indicate that the game will be revealed at PlayStation Experience 2016 event this coming weekend. This timing would fit with Capcom’s previous reveal of Street Fighter V at PlayStation Experience 2014.
If these Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 rumors are true, could this also mean the game will be a PS4 exclusive? Or are we just being tricked by some very talented phonies? And what character and fighters will make a return? I suppose we’ll find out pretty soon — even sooner than next weekend if these leaks continue.
