Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man has to face new threats in a world that is forever changed. Peter Parker’s got a long way to go to fully recover from the loss of yet another important figure in his life, so he does what any normal teenager would do after they get brought back from the dead to help save the world; he goes on holiday. But since this is the Marvel Cinematic Universe things aren’t that simple, and in Far From Home Peter gets pulled into a web of new challenges, faces the idea of the multiverse, and meets Mysterio. Better suit up, kid, ‘cause we’re about to look at what the future might hold for you.
We’re Past The Endgame Now
In the bombastic finale of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man was brought back from being dusted to help out in the final battle against Thanos. He goes from fighting aliens, riding a Pegasus, and protecting the Infinity Gauntlet to being back at school… That has to be a major buzzkill. But now that Peter has been reunited with his best friend Ned, they are getting ready to embark on a school trip to Europe as two American bachelors… or so they thought. Their European adventure happens to coincide with the arrival of some bizarre monsters called the Elemental Creatures, which Nick Fury and a new figure called Quentin Beck AKA Mysterio explain supposedly burst through another dimension in the fallout from the snap. The effects of Endgame are going to reverberate across the MCU for years to come. In the footage we’ve seen so far, Nick Fury teams Spider-Man with Mysterio to take down the Elementals before they destroy our world.
Suits You, Sir
Before Far From Home, Peter is used to Tony Stark giving him suits with endless gadgets and functions. But now that he’s got a little tech back-up of his own, the wall-crawler can finally design his own costumes and tailor them to whatever challenge he’s up against. A fire and a water creature? Better make that new suit fireproof and waterproof… Even though Happy Hogan will be on hand to help Pete get used to his new creative tech, he’ll largely be left to use his own scientific expertise to aid him in his superheroism. But by the end of Far From Home, it would be great to see him learn to have a little faith in himself. It’s clear that each time he gets a new suit, it’s a way of symbolising his character development. He’s gone from a friendly neighbourhood defender in Homecoming to a cosmic Avenger wearing the Iron Spider costume. His new red and black look might signify that he doesn’t need a mentor and he can be his own hero.
Friendly Neighbourhood Girlfriend
Although his relationship with Liz was over before it began in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter’s chances with MJ are definitely on the rise. He might have to compete against a new student, Brad Davis, for her attention – but if the trailer’s anything to go by, Pete might just get the girl this time. It will also be a complete dynamic change for the two since she seemingly guesses who he really is… So Ned’s dating Betty Brant and Peter might be dating MJ, those double dates around New York would be pretty cute. Also, just picture Aunt May’s reaction to Pete getting his first girlfriend, that alone is enough to make us need that relationship to hurry up, like now.
Villainous Vendettas
While Tony was always trying to help Peter grow as a person and as an Avenger, Nick Fury just needs him as an operative. Luckily, Spidey has a new superhero to look up to in Quentin Beck. And why wouldn’t he admire him? Mysterio has incredible technology and seemingly magical powers that help him defeat invading monsters from another dimension, he’s the perfect salve for Peter’s grief in a post-Endgame universe. But with the Elementals to contend with, Spider-Man’s list of enemies is growing pretty quickly. It’s not difficult to imagine that a whole team of villains may soon come after the webhead. After all, the Vulture and Scorpion are geared up to take Spider-Man down after he put them away in Homecoming. Peter Parker needs to watch his back after Far From Home because he might get a sinister surprise…
Knowing Peter Parker, there’s bound to be some more surprises waiting when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theatres on July 2.
