You may already know how Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will end, but trailers for the upcoming spinoff film tease quite a few things that are entirely new. We’ve got new Stormtroopers, new Imperial officers, new starships, and new droids. And, this being a Star Wars movie, there will be new aliens. Want to know more about the otherworldly aliens in Rogue One?
UPDATED 11/1: Now with 100% more Mon Calamari.
Read on to find out who they are, but beware of mild spoilers…
Admiral Raddus and the Mon Calamari
Admiral Raddus is a Mon Calamari, the same species as fan-favorite Admiral Ackbar. But why is his skin blue in color instead of red like Ackbar’s? It’s no trap, Raddus really is from Mon Cala, the same planet as Ackbar, he’s just from the polar regions where Mon Calamari have a different skin tone. In fact, there are even more skin tone variations of the species seen in the film — note the very pale blue Mon Calamari in the background of the image above.
Moroff
No, that’s not a smart Wampa with a respirator. This is Moroff, and he’s a Gigoran. We’re not sure how much screen time they’ll give this tall furry beast, but we know that he’s a mercenary with a big ol’ gun — his action figure is already out, and it’s awesome.
Rebel Commando Pao
This fierce warrior is a Drabata: a species of amphibious alien. Though you haven’t seen much of him yet, Pao will accompany our main troupe of heroes on their mission to get the Death Star plans.
Bistan
He may have a face only a mother could love, but Bistan is clearly the most lovable of the aliens in Rogue One. There’s something distinctly cuddly about this Iakaru. Maybe it’s the eyebrows. Bistan will also help Jyn Erso‘s team (the titular “Rogue One”) on their secret mission.
Even though we know a surprising amount about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the film continues to be a mystery. Disney and Lucasfilm have done an admirable job keeping things under wraps — there could be more as yet unknown aliens in Rogue One.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has already stolen your plans for December 16.
