The first episode of the second season of Star Trek: Picard dropped on Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand on March 4, bringing fans’ two-year wait to a rewarding end. The season one finale left us with plenty of reasons to get excited for season two, including Jean-Luc Picard dying (but then not?) and a reasonably happy ending that saw a fully assembled crew souring off in the La Sirena to boldly go, well, you know the rest.
But while season one was mostly tied up in a neat bow, even with Jean-Luc conveniently relocating his mind and spirit into a new body that looked just like his original one (sans brain abnormality, of course), we were still left wondering what was next for the crew.
As each one of the season’s ten episodes drops each Friday evening, those questions will be answered, reminding us that time is the true final frontier. More favourite characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager beam down to join the action as season two sees a mix of familiar faces travel to an unfamiliar world.
John de Lancie reprises the role of Picard’s Next-Gen-nemesis, Q, whose mischief-making sets the scene when he resets the fabric of time and creates an alternate universe, requiring Picard and his crew to fight to save the galaxy’s future from the perils of 21st century Earth.
Brent Spiner steps back into the shoes of Altan Inigo Soong and, in one of the most hotly anticipated character appearances, Whoopi Goldberg returns as the all-knowing bartender, Guinan. Having first appeared in season two of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1988, Goldberg’s Guinan returns to deliver a sage warning to Picard: “Your answers are not in the stars – and they never have been.”
Jean-Luc is joined by a slew of returning characters from season one, including Jeri Ryan rejoining the cast as Seven of Nine, along with Alison Pill as Dr Agnes Jurati, Isa Briones as Soji, Sutra, and Dahj, Evan Evagora as Elnor, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker, Santiago Cabrera as Cristobal “Chris” Rios, and Orla Brady as Laris.
