It’s Actually Really Hard Work Being A Space Marine

There’s a reason the Space Marines in Warhammer 40,000 are like 11-feet tall superhumans. In order to have any chance of wielding the oversized and ridiculously powerful Power Fists, you’ve basically got to be a man (or woman) mountain – as we found out with hilarious results.

UK production company Rewind has worked with publisher SEGA and developer Relic to build a working replica of the Power Fist, the weapon favoured by the Imperium of Man warriors. When wielded by a space marine, these Power Fists are capable of punching through almost any defence.

But on our apparently rather feeble arm, the weight of the Power Fist nearly had us toppling over – even with the cleverly engineered harness attempting to distribute the weight of the fist across our body. To put the weight into context, each finger alone weighs 6kg…

We're smiling here, but the wrist bruises are real

Rather than the faces of our worst enemies, it was flower pots, plastic doll houses and even a sturdy piece of plasterboard that needed to watch out. The real life Power Fist is capable of delivering up to 3000 PSI via a pneumatic cylinder plus the force of our own fist.

Check out the results and yes, we’re aware we look ridiculous:

“With the release of Dawn of War III finally upon us, our team and our players have a lot to celebrate,” said Game Director Phillippe Boulle. “What better way to mark the occasion than by donning a Power Fist and smashing things up! We’ll just have to be very careful when giving out launch day high-fives.”

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III is coming to PC on April 27, 2017 worldwide and will give you access to all kinds of awesome weapons including the Power Fist – just not in real life.
