Fans of Preacher (that includes me) have been anxiously awaiting a glimpse at one of the comic’s most important characters, the Saint of Killers. An unstoppable force of violence, the Saint is one of Jesse‘s long-standing antagonists throughout the series. Well, today’s news from Bleeding Cool gives us that glimpse. If you want to stay unspoiled, go away now.

These stills from the next episode — which will air on June 5 — show Graham McTavish (OutlanderThe Hobbit) donning the familiar garb of a cowboy who will be cursed for all eternity. Take a gander at these awesome stills from the second episode:

I won’t spoil anything for any non-comic readers, but these images are looking pretty faithful to Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s original story. I’m sure someone will complain about the Saint having facial hair but that’s the nittiest of picks. McTavish is a great tough guy, making him perfect for the curt and frightening Saint. I can’t wait to see his take on the character. How much of a presence he’ll be on the show remains to be seen. McTavish is only listed for one episode on IMDb — with the cleverly obscured character name of “The Cowboy” — but it’s possible that’s a bit of sneaky misdirection. If things play out in a similar fashion to the comic story, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Saint than just one episode.

If there are fans who are nervous about how different the show is going to be from the source material (they shouldn’t be), these images should put some of their fears to rest. The showrunners of Preacher are approaching this character with utmost respect, and I think we’re all in for a treat once we get to see him in action.

Preacher returns on June 5. Get ready for a whole lotta killin’ when it comes back.
