With the success of the 2015 Tomb Raider reboot and its sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, it won’t come as too much of a surprise that there might be a third entry in this new series. And it now seems inevitable that it’s going to be called Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Rumours of the game first emerged in October, when someone spotted a commuter on his laptop flicking through marketing docs branded with Shadow of the Tomb Raider headings and other iconography.
And now here we are, nearly eight months later, and there’s another Shadow of the Tomb Raider leak that also looks incredibly legit. A California-based marketing company called Take Off a published a set of Shadow of the Tomb Raider concept art, which basically all but confirms the game is real.
The top line is merely a collection of logos for the game, with the image on the far right actually one of the promos for Rise of the Tomb Raider. But the concept art underneath serve as illustrations for what the game might be.
Lara’s seen with a similar set of bow and arrows as the past two games in the reboot series, but also with a large blade and what looks like a flare, which takes us right back to the Tomb Raider games of old. Looking further at the concepts though and you can spot some Pyramids, so it might not only be Assassin’s Creed Origins taking us to Egypt this year.
The art was spotted by an eagle-eyed NeoGAF user, but it’s since been taken down and the Take Off website is currently “closed for renovation” – aka an official scolding for the leak no doubt.
After this second major Shadow of the Tomb Raider leak, it’s looking more and more likely that the game does indeed exist. We’re still surprised it didn’t make an appearance at E3 2017, but perhaps it’ll make an appearance at GamesCom in August.
