Ghost in the Shell

In theaters March 31.

This live-action adaptation of the popular anime, Ghost in the Shell, stars Scarlett Johansson as Major, a first-of-her-kind cybernetically-enhanced human designed to be the perfect soldier in a war against the world’s most notorious criminals. But as an unprecedented threat rises, Major learns that she’s been misled and her life is not what it seemed to be.

We’ve seen 12 minutes of Ghost in the Shell, which was recently shown at an IMAX fan event, and it’s safe to say that this is an anime adaptation worth getting hyped for.

The Fate of the Furious

In theaters April 14.

The spring movies season shifts into high gear on April 14 with the latest installment in the supercharged Fast & Furious series.

Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon, Brian and Mia have retired from the game, and the rest of the “Fast & Furious” fam have been exonerated. But you’re crazy if you think things are gonna stay that way for long! It all goes to hell when a mysterious woman (Oscar winner Charlize Theron) shows up and seduces Dom (Vin Diesel) into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him. From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains of the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage… and to bring home the man who made them a family.

Sure, go ahead and laugh at the over-the-top action. Yes, this movie has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson taking on a torpedo-firing submarine… on ice. And that’s precisely why it will put asses in seats on opening night. Be there!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

In theaters May 5.

The interstellar a-holes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, coming May 5. From director James Gunn, the superpowered sequel reunites us with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Baby Groot, Rocket, Yondu and some other important characters both familiar and new.

The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aide. And, of course, it’s all set against the sonic backdrop of “Awesome Mix Vol. 2.”

King Arthur

In theaters May 12.

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne.

When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy… whether he likes it or not.

Alien: Covenant

In theaters May 19.

A new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise, Alien: Covenant follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Conceived by Ridley Scott as a follow-up to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant is directed by Luke Scott (Ridley’s son). The film hits theaters everywhere on May 19, 2017.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

In theaters May 26.

The fifth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, is sailing into theaters this May.

Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow thrust into an all-new adventure. The story begins, rumor has it, with Jack down on his luck traded and the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly as deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Maze Runner actress Kaya Scodelario is the female lead, Carina Smyth. And Orlando Bloom reprises his role as Will Turner, but without the company of Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann. But franchise favorites Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa), Kevin McNally (Gibbs), Stephen Graham (Scrum), and Martin Klebba (Marty) are returning.

Baywatch

In theaters May 26.

Baywatch is back, but Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff are nowhere to be found. This time it’s stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, and Alexandra Daddario filling out those red lifeguard suits. The action-comedy follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

Seth Gordon of Horrible Bosses is in the director’s chair. You can expect Baywatch to have plenty of laughs, some solid fight scenes, and more beach bodies than any of the other spring movies.

Wonder Woman

In theaters June 2.

Wonder Woman is a huge release for the DC Extended Universe. It’s got a lot to prove after the response to Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.

Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action-adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat.

The Mummy

In theaters June 9.

After a number of failed attempts (The Wolfman and Dracula Untold) Universal is officially kicking off their MonsterVerse — a shared movie universe featuring all of the studio’s classic movie monsters — with a Tom Cruise-led take on The Mummy.

The mummy in question is an ancient queen, believed to be safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the desert, who is awakened in present day. Tom Cruise is joined by a cast including Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond), Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (The People V. O.J. Simpson), and Oscar-winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). Crowe plays Dr. Jekyll, who may be the MonsterVerse equivalent of Nick Fury — the guy who brings all the characters together.

Transformers: The Last Knight

In theaters June 23.

If there is one thing you can say about the Michael Bay Transformers movies, it’s that you never know how much crazier they’re going to get. The long-running franchise is now entering its fifth installment – subtitled The Last Knight – and it sounds like the director of the madcap action classic Bad Boys II has prepared something suitably insane for a series about cars turning into robots.

The series is headed back in time to the land of King Arthur (and apparently, Nazis!) as Optimus Prime and the Autobots continue their never-ending battle. The fifth film in the series stars Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabella Moner, Stanley Tucci, and John Turturro.
