Garrett Wang played Harry Kim, a Starfleet ensign fresh out of the Academy, for seven seasons on Star Trek: Voyager. And over the course of 172 episodes, from 1995-2001, viewers watched as Wang’s gifted Operations Officer assist in navigating the starship home from the Delta Quadrant (although in the episode “Timeless,” he also accidentally destroyed the USS Voyager — twice).

However, other than taking the night shift on the bridge, Kim was never promoted beyond ensign — until now. Fandom enlisted Wang to test out Oculus Quest –an all-in-one gaming system for VR, and to take the USS Aegis out for a spin in the multiplayer VR experience Star Trek: Bridge Crew. With Wang in the captain’s chair, he commands a mission in the stars, answers a distress signal, and punches a ship to warp speed. He also explains the differences between stepping into virtual reality, as opposed to the reality of acting on the Voyager set.

Check out the video above for the full story before you and your friends work together and step into the roles of helm officer, engineer, tactical officer, or captain.
