The characters of Zombieland: Double Tap have been surviving in a zombie apocalypse for an entire decade. That’s pretty impressive! But what exactly does it take to make sure you don’t turn into the living dead? We’re gonna take a look at exactly how the characters of Zombieland: Double Tap have approached their survival strategy in a world with lots of bitey folks wandering around.

Columbus

When it comes to sticking to the rules, you can’t get anyone stickier than Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg). His entire life has been centered around creating strict rules and following them to a T. Whether it’s the importance of getting a good cardio workout or ensuring a zombie is definitely dead by doing the double tap, Columbus has managed to make it through Zombieland thanks to his life-saving rules.

But, as we learned in the first Zombieland, you have to be willing to expect the unexpected and adapt to any situation. Columbus will always fall back on his all-important rules, but he’s also aware that life is going to throw you some serious curveballs. And in Zombieland, those curveballs could be something like a stronger zombie or a brand new person in your life. Considering we’ll be seeing both of those things in Zombieland: Double Tap, it’s likely we will be learning about even more rules that have helped keep Columbus from becoming one of Zombieland’s more aggressive residents.

Tallahassee

Meanwhile, you’ve got someone like Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) who has lived a very different lifestyle in Zombieland. The phrase, “do what you love and love what you do,” comes to mind when thinking about this wild-at-heart member of the Zombieland crew. Tallahassee’s approach to surviving is to enjoy this life and that extends to killing zombies. He finds happiness in how he knocks off the undead, and it’s certainly proven to be a great source of stress relief. We’re certain everyone needs that to survive, even if they aren’t in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

And his enjoyment isn’t limited to zombie-killing. In the original film, Tallahassee is on the hunt for some Twinkies because he misses the taste of those tiny, delicious treats. That perfectly sums up his character: a guy that’ll bask a few zombie brains in order to savor a small snack. And we know Tallahassee will be making the best out of any situation in Zombieland: Double Tap as he gets to take over the White House and kick his feet up in the Oval Office. As far as Columbus’s rules are concerned, Tallahasse perfectly embodies Rule #32: “Enjoy the little things.”

Wichita & Little Rock

Speaking of the rules, another important one is Rule #29: “The Buddy System.” Having a partner is crucial to navigating Zombieland, and there is no better partner than a family member. Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are living proof that family matters, even after the world has been turned into flesh-eating corpses. These two sisters have used their wits and their cunning to outmaneuver both the undead and other living residents in Zombieland. They look out for each other and stick together no matter what. It is important to have someone you can count on in Zombieland, and these two sisters have made it this far because they can rely on each other.

However, that doesn’t mean they always get along. Zombieland: Double Tap has Little Rock running away from her adoptive family so she can feel a sense of freedom, and Wichita is determined to find her and get her back. Loyalty and love are qualities that could get lost in the hectic world of Zombieland. These sisters are a testament to why those qualities are worth holding on to, even after the world has fallen apart.

Surviving Zombieland is no easy task, and this ragtag group proves that there are plenty of ways to do it. But, how will their survival be tested in Zombieland: Double Tap? With evolved zombies and newcomers both invading their world, our heroes are going to have to figure out new ways to stay alive (and have fun doing it). Find out how they do exactly that when Zombieland: Double Tap opens in theaters on October 31st.
