After almost a decade of creeping us out via computer screens and consoles at home, we’re finally being invited to spend a night (or five) at Freddy Fazbear’s on the big screen. The Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has been hotly anticipated for a long time. Now, it’s finally out, and fans are ready to brave their chances.
Being one of the most popular horror games of all time, it’s expected that there’ll be many questions about what will appear in the movie. Will it be faithful to the game? Will there be any extra scares? Will we at least get a taste of Freddy’s Pizza to soothe us through the night? Find out everything you need to know about Five Nights at Freddy’s before catching it in cinemas, out now.
Now, in case you’re unfamiliar with the game or have tried to wipe those scares from your brain for years, we’ll give you a refresher. Mike Schmidt is tasked with overnight security at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a restaurant plagued with, let’s say, a troubled past. There are four animatronic robots within the building — Chica, Foxy, Bonnie and Freddy himself — that move around at night.
The catch is that if they spot a human walking around, they’ll try to cram them into a spare mechanical animatronic that is not meant for humans and will end in certain death. Sounds pleasant, right?
As for the film, you can see in the trailer that all details down to the appearance of the animatronics are virtually the same (which have been created by the masters at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and look terrifyingly life-like). We’ve still got Mike and Freddy and the gang who are lurking around every corner. We even have a glimpse into what makes the pizzeria’s history so dark, and why the animatronics are really on the hunt. But, we also have the new addition of Mike’s younger sister, Abby. Abby has to stay the night at Freddy’s with her older brother while he works. But if she can’t sleep or becomes too curious, Mike has more than himself to worry about.
Directed by Emma Tammi, the Five Nights at Freddy’s cast is stacked with actors who are experienced in roles of survival and all things spooky. Taking on the lead, Mike Schmidt is played by Josh Hutcherson, with Piper Rubio playing his sister.
Another big name on the cast is Matthew Lillard, who at this point is a horror movie icon. Lilliard plays Steve Raglan, a smug career counselor charged with helping Mike find a job.
The cast is rounded out with the likes of Mary Stuart Robertson, Elizabeth Lail and Kat Conner Sterling. Keep your eyes peeled to see some of your favourite gaming creators make a cameo also, like CoryxKenshin, who appears in the trailer — a nod to those who made the game popular in the first place.
Oh, and Five Nights at Freddy’s is made by Blumhouse Productions, who are responsible for pretty much any great horror movie of the past few years – think M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man. We’re in good hands, folks!
For any other juicy info on this long-awaited film, you’re simply going to have to put on a brave face and head to your local cinema. Five Nights at Freddy’s is in cinemas now — just have your wits about you.
