Your Name is currently the 16th biggest film of 2017, and the most successful anime of all-time, grossing a whopping £355m worldwide. But the majority of that huge haul came from Japan, China and South Korea, with the movie making just $5m in the US.
With the film getting a re-release in UK cinemas today – on IMAX no less – FANDOM has decided to alert you to the existence of this incredible feature if you haven’t heard of it, or demand that you go see it if you have!
A Japanese anime, Your Name starts out a body-swap comedy in the style of Vice Versa or Like Father, Like Son, with the official synopsis as follows…
Mitsuha and Taki have never met, but when the frustrated country girl wishes of a life in the big city, they will forge a connection both unexplainable and unforgettable. In their dreams, the two swap lives, cultures and genders as they learn more about, and grow closer to, each other. What was once a shock becomes a joy-filled double life, but what will happen when they discover the red string of fate tying them together?
Which doesn’t give a huge amount away, but that’s a good thing as Your Name is a film that’s filled with surprises. What we will say is once that initial conceit is explored, the film goes to some seriously unexpected places that are moving, thrilling, and ultimately quite profound.
You can watch the above video to find out why Chris and Kim loved the movie so much, read our review if you want to find out more, or check out the below feature in which our resident anime expert visits the film’s iconic locations.
Better still just go see it, with Your Name in UK cinemas right now, and on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital elsewhere. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
