It’s July, and that means cool summer drinks and vacation. But not only that, it also means a brand-new month of tons of new anime to watch. From cute girls rising from the dead to adventures on the high seas, here are five must-see anime to watch this July.
Mo Dao Zu Shi

Just because anime comes from Japan, doesn’t mean that other countries don’t dip their toe in the anime pond. From the Chinese studio that brought us The King’s Avatar comes the shounen-ai series, Mo Dao Zu Shi.
Grandmaster Wei Wuxian has roamed all corners of the earth with his wanton ways. Due to the chaos, he created, many clans conspire to kill him. And a backstabbing blow coming from Wuxian’s beloved disciple and the power of the other clans have managed to kill him. However, he incarnates into the body of Mo Xuanyu, a young man who wants to exact revenge on his family. Wuxian, now in the incarnated body, is taken away against his wishes by a famous cultivator named Lan Wangji who also happens to be Wuxian’s archenemy. However, there’s a thin line between love and hate.
Calamity of the Zombie Girl

Finally, the horror-comedy Calamity of the Zombie Girl will premiere this July. Announced back in 2012, fans of Ryo Ikehata’s (Blood+) Aru Zombie Shoujo series have been waiting patiently to see their favorite character rise from the dead.
The anime follows a group of college students who disturb the slumber of a zombie named Euphrosyne. When she wakes up, she finds herself in the underground archive of a university where a maid named Alma V tells her “Madam, kill the students and retrieve the Secret Stone.” And based on the trailer, it looks like Euphrosyne has no problems in doing just that.
Angels of Death

Based on Makoto Sanada’s freeware horror game of the same name, Angels of Death follows Rachel Garner, a girl who wakes up and finds herself trapped in the basement of an unknown building. With no memory or any idea where she is, she wanders the building looking for clues as to her location. She soon finds herself face-to-face with Zack, a man covered in bandages and wielding a scythe. The two strike a bond, which becomes stronger with strange and crazy promises. The two search for a way to get out of this weird building and discover who put them there in the first place. But there will be many deadly obstacles in their way.

Grand Blue Dreaming

Grand Blue Dreaming follows Iori Kitahara who, after graduating high school, moves to the coastal town of Izu to go to university. He settles in at his uncle’s diving shop, Grand Blue since it’s located close to the school. Kitahara gets roped into joining the university’s diving circle known as Peek a Boo and through this, he meets beautiful girls and gets to hang out with his upperclassman. Campus life slowly lands him in trouble and it’s up to Kitahara’s cousin, Chisa Kotegawa, to set him straight. But, Kitahara has a secret: he doesn’t like the water and he can’t swim. Luckily, he has a cool group of friends that will teach him a new world called “under the sea.”
Asobi Asobase

Start out the summer with a few laughs courtesy of Asobi Asobase. The comedy anime revolves around three classmates who spend their days playing games. Hanako, a bright and cheerful girl, plays a game with American transfer student, Olivia. But, their rambunctiousness annoys their classmate Kasumi, who dislikes playing games but this makes it impossible for her to improve her English. So, Kasumi asks Olivia to help her, only to find out that despite her western appearance, she was actually born and raised in Japan and can barely speak English. Join the trio as they create their own club based on playing games.
