It’s a brand new year, which means new anime series and movies are inbound! In addition to the usual crop of subbed anime available for consumption, this season will also see several anime receive an English adaptation. From Godzilla fighting otherworldly creatures to the silly adventures of a cat and its human, the shows debuting in these upcoming months are going to be awesome. So, let’s dive right into the five English-dubbed anime you absolutely shouldn’t miss this winter.
Godzilla: The Planet Eater

The final part of the Godzilla film trilogy airs this January. After failing to destroy Godzilla once again, the survivors are hopeless, leading to in-fighting between humans and their alien allies. On top of that, their commander, Haruo, falls into despair and joins a death cult following the betrayal of his alien comrades.
But this mysterious cult hides a dark secret: They want to summon the destroyer of planets, King Ghidorah. Will the humans survive the upcoming onslaught or will an unlikely alliance bring them hope? Fans will discover the answer when Godzilla: The Planet Eater debuts on Netflix this winter.
My Roommate Is a Cat

There’s an anime for everyone, including cat people. Based on Minatsuki and As Futatsuya’s manga of the same name, My Roommate Is a Cat follows Mikazuki Subaru, a shy novelist who happens across an alley cat one day. As luck would have it, the two end up living together. In true anime fashion, the newly acquainted roomies go on silly adventures as they help each other through life’s many challenges.
Director Kaoru Suzuki (DIVE!!, Pupipō!) will direct the anime at Zero-G (Doreiku The Animation, Grand Blue), while Masaru Kitao (Dances with the Dragons, Death Note) will lead the character designs. Although Funimation hasn’t announced when the series will air, we do know that it will take premiere this winter 2019 season. So stay tuned!
Baki (Part 2)

The story of the strongest fighter in the world continues this winter 2019 anime season. The Netflix animated series follows Baki Hanma as he faces off against five of the world’s most violent and brutal death row inmates. The first half of the series ended with the Russian killer Sikorksy kidnapping Baki’s girlfriend, Kozue Matsumoto, leaving fans to wonder how Baki would rescue his lady.
Part 1 also revealed the true strength of Biscuit Oliva, who could be the strongest person in the series. In the second half of Baki, we can expect more of what we’ve come to expect: fighting and violence. The remaining English episodes of Baki will air on Netflix this March.
KonoSuba — God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!! (Season 1)

One of the best anime of 2017, KonoSuba — God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!!, is finally getting an English adaptation, and on Crunchyroll no less. The anime streaming platform is best known for its subtitled series, but with a new business model, Crunchyroll is hoping to make waves in the dub world — and this fantasy comedy is one of their first projects.
KonoSuba follows the hilarious adventures of Satou Kazuma, a high schooler who gets a second chance at life in a fantasy world. Once there, he teams up with a goddess named Aqua and several other goofy characters. Their silly exploits poke fun at the RPG genre, especially its quests. Subbed fans have already gotten a look at this amazing. Now, English-dubbed anime fans will finally be able to get their RPG-parody fix.
Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan

There’s yet another series premiering on Funimation this winter: the anime adaptation of Yukari Takinami‘s four-panel comedy manga, Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan. The series follows Ekoda-chan, a 24-year-world woman from the country currently living alone in the city. She’s a carefree soul who lacks a romantic interest, or a solid career or life plan. So, she works various night jobs just to make a living. But despite her shortcomings, she’s the one you want in your corner; Edoka supports all the women around who are working hard to meet their real-life obligations.
While Funimation hasn’t released much information about the series, we do know that each episode will have a different director and animation studio. This anthology series will undoubtedly be the standout anime of this winter season.
