The recent teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi gave us a few quick glimpses of the film’s heroine, but now the first full shot of Rey’s outfit in The Last Jedi has leaked. An early ad for Battlefront II emerged online today and with it came brand new shots of Rey and Kylo Ren from the next installment in the Star Wars saga, due out in December.
The version of the image that’s surfaced online is small, but if you look closely you can see that it’s the same image of Rey that was previously revealed on The Last Jedi toy packaging — but that was just from the neck up. We’ve also got a new shot of Kylo Ren without his helmet, which may be his primary look in the movie given that we saw his headgear smashed in the teaser.
Rey’s outfit in The Last Jedi is an evolution of her look in The Force Awakens. In the image above you can clearly see the fitted wrap at her midsection which gives the costume a samurai vibe. Also contributing to the medieval Japanese warrior look is her half-up hairstyle that isn’t all that different from Qui-Gon Jinn’s hair-d0 in The Phantom Menace. That’s influence isn’t surprising since George Lucas took visual inspiration from the samurai when conceptualizing the look of the Jedi and Sith in the original Star Wars films and the Prequel Trilogy.
